Here I am blogging, just like millions of others around the world. There’s a lot of noise out there, but is anyone listening?
Are we a voice in the wilderness echoing around empty valleys?
It’s the same with books. I’m about to publish my fifth book, and whilst I can see sales numbers and occasionally get reviews on Goodreads or Amazon, I picture my books floating out int the ether and someone occasionally picking one up and either choosing it or discarding it.
What is the key to living a valuable life as a writer? How does this fit in with living an adventurous life?
As I said in an earlier blog, No Risk, No Story, if I didn’t take a risk, nothing would happen.
So, I continue to write and take the risk that someone, somewhere will read my work, engage with it and get something out of it. To make sure people listen I need to write well so that I’m contributing to a bigger conversation that matters, that will add value, not noise to the world.
I believe if you do that, people will take something of value, enrich their lives and perhaps share it with others.
If I don’t write, I contribute nothing.
If I write, even if I contribute one valuable thing to one person, it will be worth it. That’s an adventure worth having.
