100 Day Creative Challenge Day 44

100 Day Creative Challenge Day 44:  Leap of Faith

Whether you have a particular faith or not, you will take leaps of faith on a daily basis.

Faith is the confidence that what we hope for

will actually happen;

it gives us assurance about things

we cannot see.

Hebrews 11:1

Creating anything is an adventure with an unknown outcome. We write or sew or draw with a vision in mind and hope that it turns out how we hoped. We also hope that if we take the risk and share our work with others that it will be enjoyed or endorsed or appreciated.

When you look at the words in the previous paragraphs there are a lot of power words: faith, hope, risk.

The feeling of finishing a project is wonderful. The sense of accomplishment, the satisfaction, the relief all combine into euphoria. Euphoria that dissipates as soon as the work is released into the world. Insecurity, uncertainty and vulnerability emerge and that’s where faith comes in again.

The bottom line is you need to take both a leap of faith to create AND a leap of faith to release your work into the world. Once you release the work it takes on another life. The reader/viewer/consumer responds to it in ways we can’t control. They either like it or don’t. Agree with it or not. Endorse or reject it.

So we need to power up our brave, wear our brave undies and have the courage to take a leap of faith.

Remember:  No Risk, No Story.

Faith is almost the bottom line of creativity; it requires a leap of faith any time we undertake a creative endeavor, whether this is going to the easel, or the page, or onto the stage – or for that matter, in a homelier way, picking out the right fabric for the kitchen curtains, which is also a creative act.
