100 Day CreativeChallenge: Day 40

100 Day CreativeChallenge Day 40:  Love Life

Sometimes life sucks. We all have those times when grief, disappointment, resentment, bitterness, sadness, stress or just plain exhaustion make us question what life is all about. Today a whole town has been burnt down in the south of our state and I’m sure they won’t be thinking about creativity and the joy of life—especially if their homes or livelihood have been reduced to charcoal

Today I’m pondering the questions that arise at a time like this.

How can God allow such devastation?

How can people just pick up and move on when they’ve lost everything?

One of my beautiful friends blogs under the banner of Dancing in the Rain. She writes about the everyday, common, ordinary things that make up the significance of our lives. Anusha brings a flavour to life that is tasty and true. In the midst of the everyday she sees life—life with spirit, soul, energy, joy.

She ascribes to the idea that:

Life isn’t about waiting for the storm to pass…It’s about learning to dance in the rain. Vivian Greene

Today as I reflect on the devastation and loss, I begin to see that as creative people (and I believe we are all creative) we want to see beauty, restoration, kindness and joy in the midst of the biggest storm, but it’s hard.

That’s where our art comes in. Creating something that enhances the beauty of life, something that brings comfort, a little poetry to the world that brings so much pain. It’s not about us and our own fulfilment. It’s about creating something that speaks to the world. That helps people to believe, to have faith, to experience joy and to dance in the rain.
