It’s been a busy couple of weeks and I’ve had to take a break from writing my blog, breaking my commitment to write every day. I’ve been overwhelmed as I’ve been editing one novel, writing another one and also preparing to speak at a TEDx event in San Francisco next week. Something’s got to give!
In the midst of this, I’ve been doing a radio series on 98.5 FM here in Perth and as a result I’ve had lots of requests from people to meet and receive mentoring in their writing. I can’t meet with everyone, so unfortunately, I’ve had to put some people off to a later date. In the past week, I’ve met with two interesting new people.
It’s made me think again about the fact that if you don’t push yourself to do something different, meet someone new or try new experiences that life can become a little stale. Hearing the stories, dreams and journeys of other people has inspired me this week and reminded of how much I love teaching.
I haven’t been in a formal classroom for a long time, but volunteering in Cambodia, mentoring writers, volunteer tutoring, the radio show and my writing are teaching is some way, shape or form. Our passions may stay the same, but the expression of them may change.
I’m basically a teacher at heart.
If you have knowledge, let others light their candles in it. Margaret Fuller
I’ve just returned home from a coffee meeting with a lovely lady who has passions, dreams and scribbles in many notebooks, just like I did ten years ago when I began the journey of becoming an author full-time. I’m not an expert by any means, but I love sharing what I’ve learnt and seeing someone else’s passion ignites my own.
Isn’t life amazing?
At times our own light goes out and is rekindled by a spark from another person. Each of us has cause to think with deep gratitude of those who have lighted the flame within us. Albert Schweitzer
