Julia Cameron’s book, The Artist’s Way is the seminal book on the subject of creativity. Millions of creative people have found it to be an invaluable guide to living the artist’s life. It’s a book that combines spirality and creativity in a way that is provocative and inspiring. One of the ways Cameron encourages us to develop our creativity is to go on Artist Dates.
Last year, my friend, author Dorothy Adamek, set herself the goal of fulfilling 52 Artist Dates. You can read about her journey here at Ink Dots. I was inspired by Dorothy’s journey and by the way she stuck at it during the year. If you read Dorothy’s posts, you can see that her ‘dates’ inspired her to write, but also to see life with new eyes at times.
As part of #365adventure, I’m going to include author dates. Who knows where the journey will lead?
This is week one of 2015 and my date this week is to see a movie—one I may not have considered before. I’m looking through the offerings and considering the options, but will try and get out of my comfort zone.
Next week, my author date will be in the Cocos Keeling Islands and will involve snorkelling and some sort of sea creatures I’m sure. Diving with sharks might just be on the agenda and will inspire some creative thinking!
Why don’t you consider making some Artist Dates for yourself this year? They don’t have to be expensive. A visit to an art gallery, a walk on the beach collecting shells, sitting in a cafe and trying new food or running barefoot through leaves in the park won’t cost much, but they may just contribute to a sense of play and mischief which will lead to some smiles and inspiration. We all need more play in our lives. After all, growing old is mandatory, growing up is optional. Chili Davis.
#365adventure is a book lover’s year of adventures. Adventures in travel, friendship, family, soul, heart and, of course, book stores!
