Bookstore Adventures — Foyles of London

Bookstore Adventures.001

Wherever I travel I make a point of finding interesting or beautiful bookstores. Over the last year, I’ve had quite a few bookstore adventures and I’d like to share some of them with you over the next few weeks.

Each store has something unique that I found intriguing or fun. So here’s Number One  of Twenty (in no particular order)

When I was in London last I took the Underground to Leicester Square and walked to Foyles on Charing Cross Road. Before plunging into the  four floors filled with over 200,000 different titles on 6.5km of shelves, I found the cafe and enjoyed a lovely coffee and a healthy salad.

Fortified, I plunged into the store and was overwhelmed by the selection of books. If you think of any topic, you will find a book on it. If not, the helpful booksellers promise to search one out for you.

Foyles is also a pretty bookshop with a lots of windows and light, making it a lovely place to wonder and discover a few new books for your collection.

Foyles, founded in 1903 by brothers William and Gilbert Foyle, first opened in 1906 and was declared by William Foyle to be ‘the world’s first purpose-built bookshop’. It is one of the London’s most well-known literary landmarks and worth a visit.

I must say, searching out bookstores when I travel makes me very happy and might not seem like an adventure to everyone, but reading and writing books are my passion. Being surrounded by books in a bookstore, library or at home is delight I indulge in.
