Dare to Give

35 Days of Dares #7 Dare to Give

The word generous means:

munificent or bountiful,

unselfish or generous giver or gift,

free from meanness or smallness of mind or character,

richer or strong as wine,

fertile as soil.

Generosity is more than monetary. Some people give and give of their time and skills as well as  money. The paradox is that instead of being impoverished when we give, we are enriched.

The givers, the generous, are blessed.

The mean and stingy have small minds and small lives. Being mean and stingy is not pleasant. It is not about money and how much you have or do not have, it’s an attitude.

What does being generous mean? Being unselfish with your time, home, talent with an attitude of seeing others prosper is generous.

The more you open up your life the more you have.

We make a living by what we get. We make a life by what we give.
Winston S. Churchill

I am a fairly private person but I’ve found opening up myself to others and sharing opens up a lot in my life.

I could be a hermit to a certain extent and come out occasionally. However, I’ve found that actually turning that around and giving more time to others then retreating to restore myself has been a much more fruitful approach to life. As people ‘take’ your offerings, whether it’s a dinner, some help with finances or hospitality, your life grows. Your capacity actually increases.

When others do well and we are genuinely happy for them, that is being generous. It shows a big character.

Human nature often gets us to think about what we might lose if we give, rather than what we might gain.

You give but little when you give of your possessions.
It is when you give of yourself that you truly give.

Kahlil Gibran, The Prophet

I dare you to give.
