Dare to Plan

#35 Days of Dares #31 Dare to Plan

#31plan.001

It’s a seeming paradox but it’s important to plan for adventure.

But, isn’t adventure spontaneous?

In an earlier post I shared about The Theory of Planned Behaviour and about how my husband and I plan for adventure.

We all dream of having adventures and every day can be viewed as an adventure if you subscribe to the definition of ‘a hazardous action of uncertain outcome.’

For goodness sake, even driving to work can be hazardous.

We plan to go to work, we plan meals, we plan family occasions, we plan vacations and sometimes things happen that we don’t expect. That’s life. That doesn’t stop us planning though does it?

As I shared in the post above getting the calendar out and planning an ‘adventure’ once a month is one way to get you get out of rut. Will your life change if you keep doing the same thing over and over?

Insanity: doing the same thing over and over again

and expecting different results.

This year I’ve swum with turtles, dolphins, sharks, manta rays and other wildlife on an adventure of a lifetime. Here’s peek at my Cocos Island Adventure

We planned to go to the islands as part of producing a new book. If we hadn’t planned that trip, we would have missed out on photos like these on Christmas Island

Sometimes our next adventures are closer to home and involve nothing more than a bush walk in our local forest, an exploration of a new bookshop or taking part in a fun run. If you don’t plan to do something, you’ll miss out.

The spontaneity begins when you go out of your normal routine or comfort zone and try something different.

You may ask—what if it doesn’t work out the way I planned? Life doesn’t always go to plan. Life has a way of throwing the unexpected in our path and we’re forced to go another way. Isn’t that an adventure in itself? We make plans and life happens, or life happens while we follow our same old routines.

Life is what happens while you are busy making other plans.
