When you’ve written your list of 100 Things, I need to let you know that there is a rule—a non-negotiable rule.
As one item is crossed off, it has to be replaced with something new.
That way, you will never feel like your life is over, and you always have one hundred things to look forward to —it’s a never-ending bucket-list.
Why is this so important? If you cross everything off, perhaps you won’t continue to live an adventurous life and begin to settle for looking back on what you have done. Forward momentum is crucial in growth and development. The List will give you impetus to keep moving, growing and changing. I’ve crossed multiple hundreds of things off my list. Some are tiny, most don’t cost a lot of money and as The List grows, it’s amazing how opportunities to cross things off come along.
For example, last year we went to Seattle, a place I’d added to The List after watching the movie, Sleepless In Seattle. While there, our friend Jade organised for us to speak at several events and somehow out of that, se connected us with a friend who was organising a TEDx event in San Francisco. He interviewed us on Skype and added us to the roster of speakers at his event.
Sometimes the most random of things we say yes to, lead us to another opportunity to say yes and complete another item on The List.
The List is not magic. It’s not a guarantee of success or wealth, but it is an opportunity to open up your life and see where it takes you. You may just be surprised!
I may not have gone where I intended to go, but I think I have ended up where I intended to be.
