Worth Getting Out of Bed For

Being married to a landscape photographer means that sunrise is part of the day when we’re traveling. Sunrise and sunset dictate the beginning and of the day. Let me tell you I’m what you call a sunset specialist. Sunrise is not my favourite time of day when I’m lying in bed and the alarm goes off at 4am.

Living an adventurous life can be very tiring. You get going at sunrise, go hard all day and finish with sunset before heading home to download photos or write up an account of the day. That’s why it’s 9.45pm as I write this and falling asleep after a day of diving.

However, if you don’t get up early you miss out on lots of exciting experiences. I remember once my husband got up on a Queensland holiday and came back raving about being on a beach with the most amazing sunrise and being the only one there.

Another time, we were in Central Australia and we got up at 4am to take a photo of sunset and this was the result. If I hadn’t got up I would have missed out on a beautiful part of the day and seeing this amazing landscape lit up with the morning sun.

Today we got up early to go diving in the Cocos Keeling Islands and it was incredible. I was tired and had work to do, but decided to go out anyway and I’m so glad I did.

As a writer there’s times to retreat and sit in the study and write, and there’s times to get out and experience something new. Today was one of those days.

So, tomorrow I’ll be out there again, exploring new things and enjoying sunrise to sunset in this absolute paradise of a place. It’s definitely worth getting out of bed for.
