You’re Fat: Friday Book Club

For the last three weeks, Jodie, Amanda and I have been having a conversation in our online book club. The conversation has been challenging and rewarding.

From Rumbling With the Dark Side, to being an Emotional Ninja to The Reckoning we’ve all been through an emotional tumble dryer. Our lives have been shaken, stirred and shifted as we work towards wholeheartedness and live brave, courageous and adventurous lives.

Today’s post by Amanda tells of a lifelong battle with food and all the issues that surround it. I think most of have battled this arch enemy. Food is really only fuel, but for many of us it’s a stumbling block to living life wholeheartedly.

I remember in high school when various students would be pulled out of PE and told they were too heavy and that they should go on a diet. How humiliating. How many people would have been scarred by this.

No counselling. No nutritional information. Just: you are fat. Do something.

No wonder so many of us are screwed up in this area.

But…

We can learn to do battle with food, shame, poor self-esteem. We can do battle with those voices that echo through our heads from the past that tell us we’re not good enough. Not pretty enough. Not enough.

If you’ve ever done battle, read Amanda’s post and share your story of your Hangry Bear.

Every time I try to diet, go raw, eliminate sugar, go dairy free, gluten free or paleo, the worst result of my efforts is what I like to term my “Hangry Bear”.  Amanda Viviersbrene brown
